As I prepare to begin our Crazy Love study this Sunday night, I am struck with the question, “Are we in a relationship with Jesus or is it just another one of our routines?” How many of us have asked ourselves that question? Do we take the time to really think about it, or do we brush it off as just another thought? In the preface of Crazy Love Francis Chan begins with, “We all know something’s wrong.” Hmmmm. Deep down I belive we DO know something’s wrong. Something just isn’t right. Something’s missing. We go to church, attend Bible study, pray, read a few scriptures here & there, and we even give. Still something is just not sitting well with us. What is it? What are we missing?
He said to him, ” ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Matthew 22:37-39, NRSV)
LOVE……that’s what is missing! True unhindered, unconditional love. Now, before you go getting all defensive thinking that I am saying that we don’t love God or others. I am saying that we do not love fully as we should, though. We do love God and love others, but we put limitations on the love we give. That is where we fall short. That is what is missing. We come to church, go to Bible study, pray, read scripture, and give with limits. We may not want to admit to that, but if we are truly honest with ourselves we will look ourselves in the mirror and own up to it. God calls for our COMPLETE love, and He wants us to give our WHOLE self to Him. He wants us to show love to others without limits.
I pray that as we go through this study, God will help us throw off our limits, and empower us through His Holy Spirit to love wholeheartedly!
