I know that picture is kind of hard to read. So, here it goes. When I first started keeping track of my measurements and working out on April 11, 2011 I weighed 114 lbs. My measurements were:

Waist: 26 Hips: 33 Chest: 32 Right arm: 10 Left arm: 11 Right thigh: 22 Left Thigh: 22

As of today (November 19, 2012), I weigh 110 lbs, and my measurements are:

Waist: 24 Hips: 31 Chest: 32 Right arm: 9 Left arm: 10 Right thigh: 20 Left thigh: 20

What?!?! Now, I didn’t start working out consistently and with determination until May 2012 & drinking Shakeology until July 2012. So check it out! And not only am I seeing a difference in my numbers, but my energy level has increased, I feel better overall, my cravings are at an all time low, and I know I am getting the best nutrition with Shakeology! You see, Shakeology just isn’t an meal replacement shake. It is packed full of all the nutritients & vitamins my body needs. It’s like taking 5 trips to the salad bar! My husband tells me almost on a daily basis that he can see a difference since I started working out and drinking Shakeology too! I had a friend start Shakeology a little over a week ago, and she sent me a message yesterday telling me that is already seeing the numbers on her scale drop & her energy level increase!

Fall Fashion Guide, With a Peek into Spring 2013

I don’t know about you, but I love looking at all the latest Fashion trends. I love flipping through a good Instyle magazine “oohing” and “aaaahing” over all the beautiful pieces. I love everything from the shoes to the dresses to the hair to nails. ALL of it! I really do wish those magazines cam equipped with a nice touchscreen that would allow for a reader to select items to own. I know, I know. That is a fantasy world dream, but a girl can dream right?! Hey The Jetsons had cool stuff, why can’t we?

I thought I would do a post giving a look into some of the Fall fashions that you might already be noticing as you are out and about. Some you may absolutely love, while others you might wish to just disappear. Either way, here ya go!

1. Black & BlueImage

Pair these colors up to make a bold statement!

2. Burgundy: Ooooo, deep red or a dark purple? However you look at it, this color is sure to turn heads this year!

3. Reptile Print: Out with all the warm blooded species, and in with the more cold blooded species. If you like more of an edgy style then you will love this trend!

4. Leather: Who doesn’t love a good leather? This year you don’t have to just limit it to your jacket though. This year leather is fashionable to wear as a shirt, skirt, dress, or pants as well.

5. Winter White: Toss out the “no white after Labor Day” rule, and embrace your “winter princess”!

6. Military: Image

March to the beat of your own drum in style! I actually am loving this trend! Check out her boots!

7. Jumpsuits: This is one of my favorites! I have to admit that I love a fashionable one piece outfit (even if it does require circus tricks when you have to go to the restroom).

I realize that I am probably not breaking any news to some of you, but for those of you who haven’t been glued to Joan Rivers & The Fashion Police, I hope this helps you some. I wonder what we will think of Spring 2013 Fashion trends? Heads up on what to expect in Spring 2013: The Helmet Newton Effect (think along the lines of bondage attire, not my fav), water prints, and stripes are just a few trends we can expect.  Happy fashion trending fashionistas!

Banana Smoothie Recipe

Anyone who really knows me knows that it could possibly be very dangerous for me to deviate from a recipe. I seriously have to text my BFF to ask if it is ok to substitute things. I just don’t have those mad “Rachel Ray skills” where I can make something amazing out of blueberries, ketchup, and pickles. Ok so maybe not even Rachel Ray can make those ingredients taste delicious together either, but you get my drift.

So today after my workout I decided to make a banana smoothie. I looked at different clean recipes for banana smoothies, but most called for ingredients I didn’t have on hand and others just weren’t what I wanted. So I decided to go out on a limb and make one without a recipe. *gasp* I figured if it didn’t turn out well, then all that would be wasted would be the one cup I would make for myself. I threw all my ingredients in the blender and blended it up, poured it in my cup, and took a sip. IT WAS DELICIOUS!

Here’s the recipe:

large cup full of ice

1 banana

1/2 c Chobani vanilla greek yogurt

1 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1tsp of honey

Blend in blender, pour in cup, and enjoy! Makes about 1 serving. It tastes just like homemade ice cream!

This Thing We call Parenting

At this stage in parenting my daughter, this picture is pretty accurate. Just trying to be honest here peeps. Let’s face it, those of us that are parents (no matter how old our kiddos are) know that parenting is tough. It is not always parks, butterflies, ice creams, and laughs. Sometimes it is more like being in a high impact bootcamp training. There are no easy 1, 2, 3 steps to making parenting easy. Our kids didn’t come with manuals. We weren’t endowed with a massive amount of wisdom on how to be the perfect parent, when we became a parent. Nope, we just knew at the moment we looked at our kids’ faces that we were their parent, and we would love these kids like crazy. None of the hard stuff ever crossed our minds when we first laid eyes on those precious babies.

Well, I find myself at the “tween stage” of parenting. To be honest, it is a very scary stage to me. Gone are the days of Dora the Explorer and Toddler tunes. They have been replaced with Good Luck Charlie and Justin Beiber. No more picking out outfits with cute little flowers and bows in the hair. She has her own sense of style, and a matching flowered outfit isn’t part of that style. And you can forget a bow! She is changing. She is growing into a young lady. A young lady with her own opinions, ideas, and dreams. A young lady who is very strong willed and stubborn. Parenting a tween is very different from parenting an infant, a toddler, or a pre-schooler. It is its own thing.

I am learning how to maneuver through this stage in parenting. Some days I feel pretty confident in my parenting ability, while other days I feel like I have been face down in the mud all day. It is a tricky thing, this parenting. Every kid is different. Every parent is different. You just have to find what works for you and your child. So, here are some points of encouragement for all of you parents that are finding yourself in this “tween stage” of parenting.

  1. Be you. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, I think sometimes we just need to be reminded that it is ok to be who we are. And especially in parenting, I think sometimes our identities get lost. We often try so hard to be the perfect parent, the soccer mom, the taxi driver, the cook, and whatever else we can throw into the mix, that we tend to lose who we are. Some parents aren’t the soccer moms, the cooks, the theatre parent, or the taxi driver. And NO parent is the perfect parent (sorry June Cleaver). Be yourself. Your kid will respect and appreciate you for that.
  2. Be the parent. This another one that seems pretty simple, but again it is also another one that gets lost in the shuffle at times. Sometimes we try so hard to have our kids like us all the time, that it gets hard to distinguish between the child and the parent. It is ok to have your kid upset with you on occasion. So what if your kid storms off to their room & slams their door vowing to never come out, because you told them no! Come on, we all know they get hungry so they WILL come out of that room. And they WILL still love you, even though you told them no. Kids need boundaries. They need rules. And they need us to be their parents, not their BFFs!
  3. Be godly. Spend time with God. Read and study scripture. Pray daily for your kids, family, and other things. Be the example of Christ to your kids, so that they will grow in the ways of the Lord. Show them what it means to have compassion, love, grace, and to show mercy. Don’t just tell them about these things, live it! I am a firm believer in Proverbs 22:6 (“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”). My parents raised me in a Christian home, and I am beyond thankful for the example of Christ they were to me and my siblings.
  4. Be aware and connected. Know what your kids are doing, who their friends are, what their dreams & goals are. Know what they like and dislike. Know what they are listening to. Know your kid! Make time to spend with your kids. Play a board game with them. Watch a movie with them. Talk to them, and LISTEN to them. Even that little bit of time spent in the car each morning on the way to school, is valuable time with your kids.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to parenting. I am learning. I make mistakes. I don’t always parent in the best way. But I do know that although parenting is tough, it is one of the greatest blessings that God has given me. And it is one of the greatest blessings God has given you too!

Do You Really Not Have Time to Workout?

One thing that I hear sometimes from people when it comes to working out is, “I don’t have time.” “I have way too much going on in my day to get a workout in.” Now, I get it. I understand that we all have busy schedules. We all have busy days that are packed full of things we have to get done. We have work. School. Kids’ activities. Laundry to get done. Houses to clean. Meals to prepare. The list could go on and with stuff that we have to do. But do we ever stop to think about the times where we are on Facebook? The times we are surfing the web? The times where we are zoned into the TV? Yes, we are busy. But, let’s all be honest. We aren’t so busy that we don’t make time for Facebook, internet surfing, or TV. We make time for those things.

Even if we only get on Facebook to check things for about 30 minutes, or watch that 30 minute sitcom that we love, it is still time that we have made for these things. So, if we have time for these things then we have time to get in a workout. You don’t have to workout at the gym for 2 hours, run 10 miles, or even do an hour long workout dvd in your living room for it to count as a workout. You CAN get in a good 30 minute workout, and still get amazing results. As long as you are pushing yourself, challenging yourself, and working up a good sweat, then you are getting in a good workout. The only bad workout is the one not done.

So, next time that voice creeps up on you telling you that you don’t have time to workout, tell it to shut up. Get moving for at least 30 minutes. Facebook will still be there. The internet can still be surfed later. And that sitcom that you love to watch, can be DVR’d or watched online at a later time. You can do this! So, what are you waiting for? Get moving, and get your workout on!
